Motorcoaches, by design, are cleaner than trains, planes and even hybrid cars. How?
Congestion Reduction: We carry multiple passengers that keep numerous cars off the road. This efficiency results in a reduction of emissions and crowding of highways.
Emission Efficiency: Did you know that motorcoaches are cleaner than trains, planes and even hybrid cars – by far? Passenger cars alone have caused about 60% of U.S. carbon emissions over the last 20 years, according to the Department of Energy.
Green Fuel Options: Cars aren’t the only vehicles that manufacturers are trying to better. With various blends of ultra-low sulfur fuel already developed, our motorcoaches have become part of Canada’s energy solution.
All of our coaches are equipped with EPA 07 engines that produce 55% less nitrogen oxide (NOx) and 90% less particulate matter (soot and ash) than previous year models. The combination of EPA 07 engines and utilization of ultra-low sulfur fuel makes our motorcoaches part of Canada’s energy solution.
Further, Prevost, our Canadian manufacturer, has the distinction of being the first motorcoach manufacturer in North America to receive ISO 9001:2000 Certification for Quality and ISO 14001 Certification for Environmental Protection in their manufacturing processes. Our selection of Prevost coaches is based on their progressive and long term vision for the environment and their commitment to reducing diesel engine emissions.
Pacific Western Environmental Initiatives
PWT continually employs environmental strategies that will reduce the amount of emissions and waste that is produced. We are committed to the protection of the environment in addition to compliance with all rules and regulations pertaining to environmental issues.
This is accomplished through: Driver Training – rigorous training program which focuses on fuel conservation; Strict and verifiable policies – policies which reduce the amount of idle time; Preventative maintenance program – program which ensures our coaches are optimally maintained; Speed monitoring systems – systems which automatically reduce the maximum highway speed of our vehicles; Continuous testing – testing various products that reduce the amount of fossil fuel that we use.
PWT has even developed and implemented an Environmental Management System (EMS) that effectively manages the impacts of our daily activities and services that affect the environment, ensuring environmental processes and impacts are effectively managed and are continually improving. These efforts have become part of our philosophy and are current with global environmental sensitivity.

Environmentally Safe Products
CFC free aerosols and biodegradable soap are used for the cleaning of the vehicles; Oil absorbent pads and socks are being used to reduce the use of oil absorbent in the repair shop; Spill kits are located in the wash bay and in the shop to be used in the event of a large spill; Proper apparatus is supplied to staff for the handling of products that may be harmful to them or to the environment; All waste generated from spills or from products used is disposed of according to environmental regulations.
Focus on Reusing
PWT utilizes two refrigerant recovery systems for the repair of air conditioning units; State-of-the-art coolant recycling station that allows us to minimize spillage when working with glycol; The station also permits us to reuse existing antifreeze/coolant reducing the amount of new product consumption.
Focus on Recycling
Used engine oil is to be collected and stored on site, and when needed, this will be transported off-site by a licensed carrier to be recycled; A scrap metal bin is placed on-site at the Ordan Facility, for the collection of all metals that are recyclable; Separate bin(s) are placed outside for recycling products such as cardboard, paper, bottles and plastic, thereby reducing the amount of solid waste that must be taken to a landfill site.
