Pacific Western Transportation Helps Tour Group Travelling in Japan After Earthquake
Toronto, March 30, 2011 - The country of Japan and its residents continue along the long road to recovery following the devastation caused by the large scale earthquake experienced on March 11th, 2011. Significant casualties were experienced following the disastrous earthquake and resulting tsunami. Thousands of people outside of the more heavily affected areas were left stranded, due to lack of transportation.
During this period, one of Pacific Western Transportation's local Tour Operators had a group of students travelling to Japan. The group was stranded at Japan’s New Chitose Airport in the metropolitan area of Sapporo. Originally scheduled to land in Tokyo, they were diverted to New Chitose Airport when the earthquake hit.
Pacific Western Transportation’s Operations Manager, Ray Cherrey was contacted and was able to draw on a partner relationship within the travel and tourism community to assist. The group was put in contact with a Pacific Western Transportation client in Vancouver, who through their tour business is familiar with bus operators in Japan. They would go on to help locate bus transportation for the group during the emergency.
Eventually, the group was able to obtain safe bus transportation to a hotel approximately two hours from New Chitose Airport in Sapporo. On Monday, March 14th the tour group safely returned to Canada from Japan.
